Life after two years in prison
When she first left, it was difficult for her to come back to her community. Her main struggle was with finding an income to support herself and her family.
When she first left, it was difficult for her to come back to her community. Her main struggle was with finding an income to support herself and her family. The roof of her house was also damaged, so she was exposed to rain, wind, and storms. While she was in prison, her health deteriorated because of the difficult conditions. In order for her to sleep, she would need to rent a space in the cell because of the overcrowding. Not only this, their hygiene was poor and she didn’t have enough to eat.
Now that she has left, she still struggles with various sicknesses from that time. However, when she left prison, her community was welcoming and came together to support her with different resources and food. Prison Fellowship Cambodia employees visited her regularly to follow up and check how she was doing. When they saw the state of her roof, they decided to support building a new roof to shelter her and her family. They also provided the finances for her to build a chicken coop, and buy some chickens and chicken feed.
Now, having a fixed house and a way to sustain themselves better, she feels comfortable in her home. Her chickens also provide an additional way for her family to sustain themselves. Though she still struggles with her health, she is able to work as a cleaner for events and work at a factory to generate more income. She is very thankful for the way PFC has helped her since leaving prison.
