Vocational Skills
Motorbike Mechanics
These courses run in four major prisons. The courses are for 6 hours per week for 3 months with 12-15 students in each class. Prison Fellowship provides the trainers, the practice motorbikes and the tools.
Sewing
Sewing courses for women are currently running in three prisons. We provide the trainers (or teach prison staff how to teach sewing), some machines and materials. The course has proven popular. Women represent around 5% of the total prison population. The prisons in which this course is held hold about 80% of these women.
Electronics
Our first pilot electronics course was started at the National Men's prison (CC1) early in 2006 with 15 students. This is a 5 month course, with 6 hours per week class time. The course has expanded to three new prisons in 2007.
Computers
Computer courses began in three prisons in late 2006/early 2007. This new education programme is an exciting venture for PFC and enables us to provide skills that have the potential for gaining higher level jobs for some former prisoners on release.
Weaving
This weaving programme is a cooperative venture between the prison and Prison Fellowship Cambodia. Four weaving machines have been provided to produce sarongs or 'sampots' from Cambodian silk. ! sampot is produced on one machine every two days providing a skill for women and some income from each item produced.
